AT HOME • IOWA NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY

There’s something quietly magical about those first few months being home with your baby. For this in-home newborn (ish) session, we didn’t need to stage much. Their love filled the room and told the story for us.

Why I Love In-Home Newborn Photography

At-home sessions are different from studio work. They’re slower, softer, and deeply personal. Every creak of the floorboard, every light leak through the curtains, tells your story.

And when baby is wrapped in the blanket Grandma knit or lying on your bed beside the dog, that’s the kind of memory that lasts.

What to Expect from a Newborn Session at Home

While you’re cozied up in your home, here’s how I approach newborn photography:

    • I use natural light whenever possible to create that dreamy, nostalgic feeling
    • No stiff posing, just gentle direction and storytelling guidance
    • Sessions typically last 1–2 hours, with plenty of time for feedings and cuddles
    • I focus on authentic, artistic frames that reflect your home and energy.

A beautiful spring day in Iowa for one of the sweetest couples at The Cheateau with Makayla + Andrew. The floral decor along with a variety of pastel and bright colors made for a cozy intimate vibe.

Molly + Ron had the most whimsical & unique summer engagement photos in Macedonia Iowa, a small southwestern town with a large collection of taxidermy birds. Wait… what? That was my reaction too. When Molly told me that her mom was the mayor and we could take photos there, I said “ABSOLUTELY LET’S DO IT!” Macedonia was a nice escape from 2022 and into the past of a town filled with so much flair and history, especially a lot of family history with Molly’s family. Right across from the museum was an antique shop filled with old medical tools, creepy dolls, an old coffin, and a lot of other creepy-cool things I could go on and on about. We then drove a few blocks away to a family farm, where her family still lives today. Cows, beautiful Iowa scenery, yellow roses, grandma’s dress – truly a DREAM. And the best part was spending that much time with two people who are so obviously an amazing match for each other. Lots of laughing and being silly. I cannot wait for their Halloween wedding this year!! I know I’ll be making my way back down to Macedonia and you should too!

Elle + Nate. A gorgeous summer wedding in Hawaii – I mean – at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. Might as well have been there with the beautiful plant scenery and the added touch of colorful lei necklaces for everyone. Intimate, colorful, and romantic. Surrounded by just the closest of their people followed by dinner and drinks. I love weddings with a small guest list and more time to focus on the private love between two people. Getting to third wheel with a couple while making pretty photos is my absolute favorite.
