Haley’s solo artsy creative maternity session at the art center in Des Moines Iowa 😍 Maternity photos should be about YOU and show off your vibe. Haley is colorful and fun and obviously one of my most beautiful favorite people, so a late fall maternity adventure during sunset was perfect (can’t wait for our snowy velvet session!)
One of the first questions I get when clients inquire with me for a maternity session is “How big do I have to be before I book?” and I usually follow by asking – well, how big do you WANT to be? Maternity sessions are typically booked late in the second trimester, but can also be booked as late as you feel like going! I want to make sure you feel good about yourself in these photos, so knowing that you’re in a physical state of *somewhat* comfort will be important!
Next – WHAT TO WEAR?! Trust me, I love fashion – I have good ideas for fashion and can generally offer advise on what will photograph or look good with the location, but when it comes to what you wear – I think it’s most important that it represents YOU and makes you feel good about yourself. If you wanna wear a bright yellow skirt with a “MAMA” shirt in leopard – HECK YES. If you want to wear a flowy velvet dress, YES! If you want to wear jeans and a sweatshirt – YAS GIRL GET IT!! I am here to make you feel like a pregnant goddess and have some fun.
I love meeting new mommas and helping them document this special time in their lives. Enjoy this beautiful momma’s maternity highlights and if you’re looking for someone to take YOUR maternity photos, let’s connect!

Giggling little girls, weeping willows, and two parents in love – all the makins for a perfect night. in APRIL. I got a little bit behind on blogging (again. such is life), but I have made some 2019 half year goals and some new strategies to share MORE photos and some oldies. This session feels like years ago. It was one of those first new nights of spring where it was just starting to get a little bit more warmer outside. You know, the perfect weather that we don’t get near enough of here in Iowa. Now it’s almost unbearably hot and I’m waiting for this weather again! I so so enjoy working with this family. I first photographed them when Brooke, their youngest, was just a little one barely sitting up. My favorite thing about photographing Leah & Brooke is how different they are from each other. Leah comes forth with confidence and joyous energy and is the life of the party, while younger sister is a little bit harder to open up – but when she does – just the most contagious little laugh. Enjoy some of my favorites from their session!

THIS is exactly the type of family session that I am living for. You’ll see why once you scroll down ;) But a family that can play and just pretend that some weird lady isn’t in their face with a camera – pinch me. I would like to humble brag and go on about how naturally gifted I am at making people feel comfortable, but it also takes a little bit of chill & the willingness to let loose a little bit. You’ll want those moments in your family session – Just give in and have a little bit of fun ;)
ANYWAY. The Chappell family and I go pretty far back, and it’s one of those funny situations where “we met online and it’s hard to remember who friended who, but we’ve always just REALLY clicked and vibed really well” type things. maybe you have it. As an introvert, I’ve found that social media and the ability to break the ice online has helped me form some really great friendships. Momma Ren is one of those. This session was the first time I *finally* got to meet her and her two boys for the first time, and I surely hope it won’t be the last. MAYBE, just maybe… keep on the look out for some future puppet shots. If you’re a lover of the arts & pure creativity, check out her husband Seth’s business – Foam Foolery! But in the mean time, enjoy this purely joyous family that I love a whole lot!
