My first passion in life has always been animals, and then science, and then later in life it became photography. To be able to *somewhat* put them together by photographing animals is truly a dream come true. I mean, it’s never under the best circumstances when it’s something that’s associated with goodbye’s and end-of-life times, but to be able to provide such a memory is something I’m very humbled to be a part of. I never look forward to these, but I enjoy the sweetness and pace of photographing an elderly animal. The tender moments where families can reflect on the funny memories of their pet and to be able to capture that love – it’s breathtakingly beautiful.

So everyone, meet Clover. Clover is a sweet fifteen-year-old black lab gal loved by two tiny humans and a mom & dad. Her momma shared with me some words about her while we were prepping for the session. I’ll go ahead and share it here. Enjoy <3

Clover used to be a crazy obnoxious lab but has certainly mellowed in her old age. I can’t begin to tell you all the things she has chewed up in her lifetime (countless shoes, wedding photos, library books, our tax refund check). Now she really just lays around and will follow us from room to room to make sure she is where we are. My husband has a special bond with her because he is the one who picked her out at the shelter as a puppy and trained her, so we like to say Clover really has only listened to him.

If you like the following, then this session’s perfect for you: Dogs. Love. Music. Drinking. Victorian houses. Amazing decor. ADORABLE PEOPLE IN LOVE. MORE LOVE. I mean, it’s ridiculous. Except I’m more of a cat person, but Neville is cute enough for me to make an exception. A dog that legit smiles – who does that? ;) Can you tell who has stolen every single heart in that home? RaeAnn and I go way back – the first memory I have of meeting her was back in 8th grade show choir – we were the awkward tall skinny girls and closely bonded over that. Come to find out that we have a lot more deeper similarities and the fact that I get to know people like this makes me feel very special. Being invited into her home and family and being able to admire her INCREDIBLE decorating skills… all while being given the creative freedom to do whatever I want. YOU GUYS. I am dying of love. But anyway, enjoy!!

Earlier this year, I was met with a request to photograph miss Maggie loving on her family as she might not be around much longer. Maggie is an 11 year-old Vizsla who was diagnosed with Cushings and was declining in health. Before their photo session, I wanted to get to know her a little bit an hear about what kind of dog she is and how special she is to her family. Her momma sent me this little snippet:

Before her mobility started to decline, Maggie used to love swimming and was an impressive frisbee catcher! She still loves car rides and has always been the best snuggler. I have pictures of her snuggling with both our kids over the years when they have been sick. She’s always reminded me of the nurse dog from Peter Pan when one of us is sick because she will always snuggle right up and keep a close eye on us. She’s slowed down a lot in the last few months, but before that she has definitely always been a crazy vizsla! She loves any treat involving peanut butter—especially just licking the last bits out of an empty PB jar. This is a picture of her with my son earlier this year

Now, any animal person knows that as a *general* rule, Vizsla’s are crazy in all aspects – crazy with their energy, their personalities, and of course *and the most* their love. I’ve seen a lot of them in my animal career and they’re definitely one of the best. Unfortunately, Maggie has since passed away. My heart goes out to her four people – she was certainly loved beyond measure and I hope each time they see these photos, they remember her sweet spirit.
