Engagement photos on a beautiful fall day in Downtown Chicago Illinois – honestly is anything better? My first time photographing a couple in the big city and hopefully not the last because I felt SO in my element. We started by Lincoln Park and walked around and ended up down by the water on the beach with a beautiful skyline view. OHHHMG. Allison + Adam are so sweet and are definitely pretty into each other ;) They knew all the fun places and gave me their own personal tour while I third wheeled with a camera. Basically how any date should go minus the third wheeling (haha I’m lame). Can’t wait to see what magic we come up with next July for their Iowa river wedding!

I highly highly recommend booking an engagement session with your wedding package – not only do you get more photos and have more memories, but we get a chance to actually work with each other and get to know each other on a more intimate level so when it’s your wedding day, it’s like hanging out with old friends.

Families dancing in the sun, doing their thing, maybe a little bit of chaos. I LOVE THAT. An outdoor family session out by the lake – sometimes Iowa can be really beautiful, but a sweet family and a sunset – perfection. The Brennan family and I met way back last year for their really super hot extended family session – like HOT as in we were melting, but they’re a pretty fire family too! I absolutely love when families come back year after year (I’ve only been doing this a few years, but stiiiilll.) A perfect first day of fall session – we met at Lake Macbride and the five-o errr quint family and I just hung out and played. I have one child, but I’d like to think that I know generally how kids will behave during sessions. I will tell you, 8/10 they’re not going to just sit and smile and do what you say. The stakes are high, folks. Come ready to play and cuddle and DO – we gotta figure out what sweet & unique ways your family smiles together. Come as you are and I will capture that.

Tessa is a fertility awareness coach who contacted me for some personal branding photos – We bounced around Iowa with each other a little bit starting at a coffee shop and chit chatting at her home, and ending with some pretty sunset nature photos! I LOVE working with other women entrepreneurs and learning about what moves them and then put their creative vision to life with a photo shoot. My new favorite thing. I guess to be fair, I really love everything and spicing it up with headshots one day and a newborn the next – ahhhhh that’s the LIFE :)

Having aesthetically pleasing images that reflect your story and your brand is SO important when it comes to marketing your business. I would absolutely love to start each day with a lifestyle newborn session. I mean, who wouldn’t? ;) They’re sweet and a fresh and optimistic way to start a day. Two new (or new again!) parents learning how to take care of a brand new person with their own personality guided by love. Enjoy some photos of Elliana 💛

I also wanted to take some time with this blog and talk about why booking an in-home lifestyle session with your newborn might be right for you.

• First and foremost, a lifestyle newborn session is intended to be organic and minimally posed. That means no bean bags and or extra equipment. It’s simple and whatever your home has is perfect.

• Your home is your sanctuary. You’ve spent almost ten months nesting and creating a sweet place for your new bundle, so why not have that be a part of your session. Showing off your style & vibe and being somewhere you are naturally more comfortable can bring out those authentic moments you’ll want to remember forever. Not to mention, you don’t even have to leave and pack up a baby.

• No pressure, no rush. Just capturing what is real and true. If your baby refuses to be put down and wants to snuggle mom, we will get those images. They don’t need to be sleeping or posed perfectly in order for the shot to happen. It’s a safe place to nurse and portray your feeding journey, whatever it may be.

• While trends may change, the memories of your first few weeks home will always be timeless. These galleries will tell the story of what a day in the life was for your family and portray many different emotions.
